Applications open for CPD certified quality improvement training

“QI is the single most motivating thing I have ever done at work.”

– Annie Taylor, Surgical Matron

Applications are open for the next cohort of our ever popular, advanced level Gold Quality Improvement (QI) training programme for colleagues from Somerset NHS Foundation Trust (SFT), Somerset Integrated Care Board, Somerset County Council and Somerset primary care.

The course consists of six study days, spread over six months, taught by SFT QI experts. You’ll be in a class of colleagues from different roles across health and social care. Together you’ll learn quality improvement methodology, applying the tools and techniques in group activities that generate thoughtful discussions. This is a great opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the county. Lunch and refreshments throughout the day are provided.

“It was lovely to meet like-minded people with a passion for quality improvement. The clear guidance and resources leading up to the first day were well received and I felt fully prepared. I looked forward to learning more about myself, the tools, and resources available and the networking to support me with my journey and project. I recommend this journey to my colleagues.”
– Jackie Markham, Specialist Homes Officer, Somerset Council

“Quality improvement is so empowering and accessible. After every training day I came away full of inspiration and energy to share golden nuggets of learning with my team.”
– Leanne Rolls, Senior Operational Manager, Acute Surgery

Alongside your classroom learning, you will lead a quality improvement project of your choice. This is your opportunity to tackle a problem in your service, ward or department, with professional support and coaching from a dedicated improvement advisor.

Eelke Zoestbergen, Quality Lead for Learning Disabilities, Mental Health and Community Services at Somerset Integrated Care Board, shared her reflections of Gold QI in a video here.

“For me, it is a way of thinking; when working with patients, there are often times when I think: why do we still do it like this? Quality improvement provides a structure to explore these problems or new ideas, no matter how big or small. Being able to identify, implement and evaluate any changes can improve our services and make the environment we work in more rewarding.”
– Simon Ingram, Musculoskeletal Consultant Physiotherapist, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust
