Gold Quality Improvement Training

Applications open to Somerset health and social care colleagues until close on Friday 23 February 2024 – instructions below

Applications are open once again for the CPD accredited and highly rated Gold Quality Improvement training programme. Closing date is Friday 23 February. Details below: please share with your colleagues.

The advanced level course is open to Somerset health and social care colleagues in a position to implement a large scale improvement project that would cover a whole service, ward or department. It provides a detailed understanding of quality improvement tools and techniques.

Starting May 2024, there will be six full days of interactive training spread over six months. Learning is put straight into practical application through a project of individual choice, to improve care and health outcomes for the people of Somerset. Outside of the training days, commitment to the course/project is around half a day a week. Full support is provided throughout the course by dedicated quality improvement advisors who teach, coach and mentor.

As well as gaining comprehensive new knowledge and skills, the training programme enables new connections with healthcare professionals from across the county.

“It was lovely to meet like-minded people with a passion for quality improvement. The clear guidance and resources leading up to the first day were well received and I felt fully prepared. I looked for ward to day two and learning more about myself, the tools, and resources available and the networking to support me with my journey and project. I recommend this journey to my colleagues.” - Jackie Markham, Specialist Homes Officer, Somerset Council

Eelke Zoestbergen, Quality Lead for Learning Disabilities, Mental Health and Community Services at NHS Somerset Integrated Care Board, shares her reflections of the gold quality improvement training programme here.

“Quality improvement is so empowering and accessible. After every training day I came away full of inspiration and energy to share golden nuggets of learning with my team.” - Leanne Rolls, Operational Service Manager, General Surgery, Yeovil District Hospital

“For me, it is a way of thinking; when working with patients, there are often times when I think: why do we still do it like this? Quality improvement provides a structure to explore these problems or new ideas, no matter how big or small. Being able to identify, implement and evaluate any changes can improve our services and make the environment we work in more rewarding.” - Simon Ingram, Musculoskeletal Consultant Physiotherapist, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust
